Checkerboard marble tile installation: Foyer project
This project involved the complete preparation and execution of a classic black and white stone floor in a residential entryway. Initially, the wooden plywood subfloor was treated with a leveling compound to establish a completely flat base. Subsequently, an orange uncoupling membrane was adhered to the floor; this is a critical step to prevent future tile cracking and to accommodate natural structural movement. Following this foundational work, the checkerboard marble tile installation commenced, with the contrasting tiles carefully measured and laid out in a diagonal diamond pattern. Finally, the setter applied thin-set mortar and utilized a leveling spacer system to ensure uniform grout lines and a perfectly flush, professional finish across the entire hallway.
